Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
🔒 Privacy First
screenclip.fast is designed with privacy at its core. All screen recording and processing happens locally in your browser. We don't have access to your screen content, and nothing is uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly choose to create a shareable link.
How screenclip.fast Works
screenclip.fast is a Chrome browser extension that enables retroactive screen capture. Here's how it operates:
- Background Buffer: The extension silently runs in the background, keeping a rolling buffer of the last 30 seconds of your active browser tab's screen activity.
- Local Processing: All buffering and processing happens entirely within your browser. The video data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it.
- On-Demand Capture: When you press the keyboard shortcut, you can choose to save the last 5, 10, or 30 seconds as a clip.
- Instant Clipboard: Your clip is instantly copied to your clipboard, ready to paste into Slack, GitHub, Notion, or anywhere else.
- Export Options: You can export clips as GIF or MP4 format for easy sharing.
Data We Collect
We collect minimal data:
- Screen Recordings: Stored temporarily in your browser's local memory only. We never have access to this data.
- Usage Analytics: Basic, anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of clips created) to help us improve the product. This contains no personal or screen content information.
- Account Information (Pro users): If you purchase Pro, we collect your email address for license delivery and support purposes.
Data We Don't Collect
- We never see, access, or store the contents of your screen recordings
- We don't track which websites you visit
- We don't collect any personal browsing data
- We don't sell any data to third parties
Shareable Links (Optional Feature)
If you choose to create a shareable link for a clip:
- The clip will be uploaded to our secure servers
- You'll receive a unique URL to share with others
- Shared clips are stored encrypted and can be deleted at any time
- This is entirely optional — you can always use screenclip.fast without ever uploading anything
Browser Permissions
screenclip.fast requires the following browser permissions to function:
- Tab Capture: To record the visual content of your active browser tab
- Clipboard Write: To copy clips directly to your clipboard
- Storage: To save your preferences and settings locally
These permissions are used solely for the core functionality described above.
Data Security
We take security seriously:
- All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
- Shared clips are stored with encryption at rest
- We use industry-standard security practices
- Local buffer data is automatically cleared when you close your browser
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Delete any shared clips at any time
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your data upon request
- Uninstall the extension to completely stop all data collection
